Customer contacted us as he required a quote to identify and repair his Shower leak. A Shower Leak Repair was undertaken 2 years ago by another repair company, however it would appear that they didn’t do a very good job. Water damage was found in the adjoining bedroom wardrobe wall.
We visited the job site to assessed the water leak. We identified that both the existing silcone in around the shower base and the grout on the shower floor had deteriorated. The grout was soft and powdery allowing water to penetrate through, compounding the water seeping through the inferior silicone.
Grout that is soft and powdery usually suffer from the addition of too much water to the original mix. Too much water creates a low density grout that cannot cure correctly and becomes inherently soft allowing water to penetrate thorough to subfloor.
The shower base required the original grout to be removed and regrouted. We used Epoxy grout on the shower base as it is extremely durable, waterproof and easy to clean. Epoxy grout is the only type of grout that doesn’t need sealer as it is inherently pre-sealed.
We removed the existing silicone along the shower base and shower screen with Premium commercial grade silicone.
In additon to providing a water tight shower, it’s amazing the difference that replacing old grout and silicone can make on the overall appearance of your tiled areas.
