We were called to this job to regrout the balcony and turned out the job required a part Balcony rebuild and Re-Tile.
After removing the existing grout, several tiles on one side of the balcony virutally popped off. This is not uncommon, as when water as been penetrating grout lines it weakens and it softens the tile adhesive.
Once we lifted the tiles the situation changed dramatically. We saw that the mdf board was rotted out and some of the sturctual support beams were also in dire condition. As a result we had to keep lifting tiles to find where the woodrot stopped. Unfortunately the entire structual beams on one side of the balcony were completely wasted. Balcony Rebuild and Re-Tile
This job required the services of a carpenter to rebuild the sturctual beams and lay down new cement sheet. As the original tiles where not able to be salvaged and were no longer available, we had no choice but to re-tile the entire balcony with new tiles. We assisted our customer with their tile selction, to provide a more refreshed and modern look. The customer was very happy with the finished job.
We’ll provide a run down of what was required to get this job completely waterproofed. We applied two coats of membrane over the new cement sheet and over the other half of the old tiles . The cement sheet was brough to the tile level of the side that was still intact. Balcony Rebuild and Re-Tile
After applying two coats of waterproofing membrane, the following day we laid the new tiles. After the tile adhesive dried, we grouted using Epoxy Grout and sealed all the edges using commercial grade silcone. This completely sealed and waterproofed the balcony. Job done !!
